Blue Lightning: Part 2 is the sixth and final episode of Series Two of the Scottish television crime drama Shetland. It first aired on 15 April 2014 and is based on the Ann Cleeves novel Blue Lightning which was published in 2010.
Synopsis[]
Time is running out for DI Perez as prime suspect Peter Latimer lies critically ill in hospital. Was the fire a drunken accident, or was Latimer the second victim of a murderer still free on Fair Isle?
Plot[]
Peter Latimer dies from the burns he suffered in the fire and DI Perez has a hard time believing that the death of two colleagues in 24 hours is just a coincidence. He learns that Latimer was a heavy drinker who would occasionally go off on a bender but Perez doesn't think he was the type to go off alone, something that seems to be confirmed when the pathologist finds a fracture on the back of Latimer's head. All of the other possible suspects have less than reliable alibis for the time of the fire. Joe Blake tells Perez that Donnie Tulloch killed his mother because of Joe's relationship with Donnie's son Angus, but has no evidence otherwise. When one of the suspects is caught in a lie, the truth comes out.
