Magnus Bain is a character appearing in two episodes of the BBC One adaptation of Ann Cleeves's Shetland.
He is a man who has lived by simple means and cut himself off from the rest of the world. It is a life he has chosen since he is just not sociable. Magnus has been protected by his own self-imposed isolation, but, when the body of a young girl is discovered near his home, he quickly becomes a suspect.
A tragedy that happened in his life many years ago also comes back to haunt him after a long period of time.
